Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Senior Consumer Loan Officer to join our team, reporting directly to the Lending Manager. In this role, you will serve as a senior underwriter, responsible for evaluating and approving consumer loan applications. You will also take on the important responsibility of acting as a team leader for junior loan officers and lending processors. Your efforts will directly contribute to achieving departmental goals and ensuring exceptional service to our members. This position also offers opportunities to assist with system upgrades and enhancements, helping to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the department.
Key Responsibilities:
Loan Production:
Review, assess, and approve consumer loan applications (personal loans, auto loans, credit cards, home equity) in accordance with our established lending policies and fair lending requirements.
Support initiatives aimed at increasing loan production, promoting ancillary product sales, and enhancing fraud prevention practices.
Identify and recommend process improvements to streamline workflows and enhance the work environment.
Team Leadership:
Monitor and assign tasks to team members in the absence of the department manager.
Step in to perform department functions as needed when a team member is unavailable.
Resolve complex issues and assist with escalated member inquiries.
Assist the Lending Manager in developing and maintaining department policies and procedures to ensure compliance with both internal and regulatory requirements.
Provide regular feedback to the Lending Manager regarding team performance, departmental updates, and member-related matters.
Compliance and Regulatory Adherence:
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, including Truth in Lending, Reg. B, Reg. Z, and the Bank Secrecy Act.
Stay informed on products, services, and policies to ensure compliance with current regulations.
Ensure all work adheres to federal regulations, including those related to the Security and OFAC, Bank Secrecy Act, Fair Lending, and the SAFE Act.
Perform other duties as assigned to meet team and organizational needs.
Performance Expectations:
Complete tasks in line with established policies and procedures.
Ensure accuracy and timeliness in records, reports, and other documentation.
Maintain up-to-date files and document changes to policies and procedures.
Ensure all work is completed in compliance with organizational policies and regulatory standards.
Maintain professional communication and foster strong working relationships with colleagues, members, and vendors.
Keep the Lending Manager informed of lending activities and team performance.

Qualifications:
3 to 5 years of experience in consumer loan and home equity underwriting, ideally within the financial services industry.
A Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
Must be federally registered with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS) or able to complete registration within 30 days of hire.
Strong understanding of local, state, and federal laws/regulatory requirements related to lending, including Truth in Lending, Reg. B, Reg. Z, and the Bank Secrecy Act.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong leadership and coaching skills to support and develop a high-performing team.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, banking, and lending platforms, and general office equipment.
MeridianLink experience is a plus.
Problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
Knowledge of consumer and home equity lending regulations.
Familiarity with organizational policies and procedures (preferred).
Additional Information:
Regular and satisfactory attendance is required.
Must maintain an acceptable personal credit history and be bondable.
Physical Demands:
This role primarily involves sedentary office work, with occasional physical activity, such as lifting small boxes or files.
Frequent use of hands for tasks like typing, file maintenance, and using office equipment.
Visual acuity is required to read, prepare, and interpret documents and information on a computer screen.
