EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Reports to: Board of Directors

SUMMARY
Provide leadership to position Art For People in the forefront of community-based performing arts organizations. Develop a strategic plan to advance the company's mission and objectives and to promote relevancy to the community, ensure adequate revenue, and inspire growth as an organization. Oversee organization activities operations to insure efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

1.

Work hand-in hand with Art For People's Artistic Director to develop a strategic plan to advance Art For People's mission and objectives and to promote relevancy to the community, ensure adequate revenue, and inspire growth as an organization.

2.

Oversee organization-wide operations to insure efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources.

3.

Plan, develop, and implement strategies for generating resources and/or revenues for the organization.

4.

Identify community partner opportunities and direct related activities.

5.

Oversee the development and implementation of appropriate and creative marketing and public relations strategies and activities to ensure a strong public presence and awareness of Art For People among the relevant constituencies.

6.

Approve organization operational procedures, policies, and standards.

7.

Review activity reports and financial statements to determine progress and status in attaining objectives and revise objectives and plans in accordance with current conditions.

8.

Evaluate performance of executives for compliance with established policies and objectives of the company and contributions in attaining objectives.

9.

Promote the organization through written articles and personal appearances at community events and on radio and TV and in other media.

10.

Represent the organization at community events, committee meetings, and at formal functions.

11.

Promote the organization to local, regional, national, and international constituencies.

12.

Build a fundraising network using personal contacts, direct mail, special events, and foundation support.

13.

Present organization activities report at Board of Director meetings.

14.

Direct organization planning and policy-making committees.

15.

Oversee all operations, including the school operations to include evaluating operating and financial performance.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

1.

Commitment to the goals and philosophy of Art For People.

2.

Experience in strategic planning and execution. Knowledge of negotiating, and change management. Skill in examining operations and procedures. Experience in formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Ability to develop financial plans and manage resources. Ability to analyze and interpret financial data. Knowledge of public relations principles and practices. Knowledge of communication and public relation techniques. Ability to develop and deliver presentations. Ability to identify and secure funding/revenue sources.

3.

Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate and interact with representatives at all levels of official and business sectors and to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to motivate teams and simultaneously manage several projects.

4.

This is normally acquired through a combination of the completion of a Degree in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting and ten years of experience in a leadership role for a large division or organization.

5.

Must have strong communication, diplomacy and negotiating skills.

6.

Ability to manage peoples workflow and resolve employee questions and conflicts.

7.

Strong organizational skills and follow through.

8.

Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule and travel.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Work may require frequent weekend and evening work. Work may require frequent overnight travel.
